Wearable trends for Autumn 2021

Well, the weather has certainly changed and we should now be wrapping up warm and cocooning on our sofas to welcome winter. But NO! Why would we want to do that when we have been cocooning for far too long during pandemic restriction after restriction.

So, if you are anything like me you probably fancy kicking off your fluffy sliders and venturing out in all your new found fashion glory. Ladies we can once again flash a bit of sparkle and sass.

But what should you be facing the world in these days? What are the “it” colours, new silhouettes, cutting edge fabrics, and flattering lengths? Well thankfully at the beginning of this year designers showed collections for A/W 21 in whatever form they could – shows, intimate gatherings, static displays, videos, all giving us the chance to study the catwalk collections and pinch a few practical trends to wear. And at Conscious Closet you know we love to use existing items to add a seasonal touch, and invest in key items that will last. So, let's look at what are the most wearable trends this season (and worry not – if you still want to cocoon you certainly can!)

Have fun this season! Sarah x

Big and bold with colour, sparkle and shine....

Designers were quick to show customers the optimism they craved, from sequins to feathers to bold saturated colours to full on glamour. Parade in bold prints, show your vibrant side in strong colours, flash skin in clever cut out details, or simply wear strong accessories and jewellery. Maybe there is a bold scarf hiding in your wardrobe you can pull out to brighten the jacket? If you are ready to rock and roll then embrace this fashion energy and turn it up to the max!

Olivia Palermo shows us how to mix sparkle in the day with a perfect combination of sequins and bomber. High street brands are doing some great sequin t-shirts you can add in to your wardrobe.

Cosy up, layer up, and embrace the outdoors....

Developing the cosy feel we have all been having in relaxed clothing for the past two years, designers showed a lot of knitwear layers, knitted dresses, padded coats and puffa jackets. Combined with homespun tartans, plaids and Fair Isle traditional patterns, and fluffy faux fur pieces. Vintage stores are amazing for picking up fluffy jackets or tartan/plaid items. Wear with chunky boots and a healthy highlighter induced glow, and you are ready to go.

Pretty as a picture but meaning business....

We all loved the summer pretty floral frocks with puff sleeves and huge hemlines, and winter sees no signs of this fading away. Chintz and large garden florals, craft touches with artisan details, lace, sheer and frills. Show your pretty side in lilac and pinks, and flashes of pretty colours under caramel tones. Wear your summer dress over a turtleneck and under a jacket or coat to “winterise” it and add some longevity. But remember – add a little danger with big boots, big rings, and a bold bag.

“Nobody puts baby in the corner”

Flash them or hide them...

Legs that is. This season it is either midi or mini – nothing in between. If you have great legs then why not – just make sure your top half is covered. And midi lengths are great with the boot trends and balanced with a shorter top. If you are a trouser gal then just make sure they are WIDE! Wide leg and flared styles range from jeans to formal suiting. It's all about the 1970’s so flick that fringe and feel happy your knees are not on show.
