Are you ready for a Christmas clothes swap? Save the date for our festive event!

We have been running our Southwell Swishing clothes swap events for over four years now, and it is always great fun to meet up and swap clothes we no longer wear.
Clothes swapping is a simple concept where people exchange the clothes that they don’t wear with clothes that they would love to wear. Clothes swapping has gained a lot of popularity in the last three decades especially with the fact that it is an eco-friendly practice giving clothes more longevity and circularity. Swishing is the nickname given due to the sound of the clothes swishing as you swap and wear them (and nothing more dodgy we assure you!!)

The idea of clothes swapping is nothing new. Remember excitedly swapping clothes with your teenage friends as you tried different looks for the forthcoming disco? Then we grow up and think the only way to venture out is in a newly bought fashion piece - but why? There are so many ways to find new or hardly worn fashion pieces, from the obvious charity and vintage shops to online sites like depop and Vinted. Not to mention the increasingly popular wave of renting your outfit - perfect to avoid adding to the “only worn once” items hidden in our wardrobes.

Don’t fall prey to wasting unworn clothes!

Don't forget that cheap fast fashion has a disturbing environmental price - textile waste, soil depletion, water contamination, the list goes on. But if we give our clothes more longevity by keeping them out of landfill and simply by buying less it certainly helps. Plus clothes swapping is a fun and more mindful way to look great in new outfits.

Wearing second hand and preloved clothing actually encourages you to be more creative with your style. As you update and adapt the piece to fit your lifestyle you can become more creative in terms of putting outfits together and probably get more compliments for your style in the process. You can also dig out older pieces from the darkest corners of your closet and offer up to other fashion folk for a new life.

So why not join us?

We welcome ladies of all ages and sizes to join us for a fun filled pre-Christmas Swish event on Friday 12th October 2021 at the iconic Saracens Head hotel, in the beautiful market town of Southwell. We will start in the Minster Suite at 7pm and finish around 9pm.

We ask that you drop items off to us between 5-6.30pm, so we have chance to hang them all on rails. If possible please drop on hangers or else we may run out!

Entrance is by pre-booked ticket only, which allows you to bring up to 10 items of clothing and accessories, and take away up to 10 items too. Tickets are £10 which includes fees through Eventbrite. Items should be on cheap hangers and in good condition - sorry no underwear or swimwear. We are also showcasing some pre-loved pieces for sale. So if you have any unworn or premium quality items you would rather sell, please bring on a hanger and tagged with the price you wish to sell, and we will display with a small commission if sold.

We will be available all evening to offer advice on items and styling, and we are also excited to announce Marilla Homes from Neal's Yard Remedies will join us to chat about the brands eco-conscious history and effectiveness of the products. She will be taking orders on the night in time for Christmas.

And as it is nearly Christmas we will of course throw in a few lovely surprises, a fizzy welcome drink, a gorgeous raffle, and lots of fashion chat!

We hope to see you soon,

Sarah and Lisa xx
