Shop your own Autumn wardrobe

As we hurtle in to Autumn/Winter 2022 it is always tempting to rush out and buy few new cold weather pieces. But as we all reel from rising costs of living, is it now time to look at your own wardrobe and dig those pieces out you can style to wear this season? We often forget some key pieces that are hidden in the murky depths of our wardrobes - so why not have a good sort out and see what you can use!

We have pulled out 8 current trends - shown on lots of insta influencers as inspiration - and with some style tips to make sure you are wearing well for 2022 and early 2023. Happy wardrobe hunting!

Our first item is so special it deserves a bit of historical introduction. When Irving Schott designed his first motorcycle jacket in 1928, he was providing a premium leather piece for hardcore bikers to wear. He named it Perfecto (after his favourite cigar!) and it certainly lived up to its name - going on to inspire many copies. The Moto (as it got shortened to) was soon seen on the backs of certain heartthrobs, on the runway in various forms, and worn by celebrities in many ways.

If you have a Moto jacket in any colour, fabric or style - get it out and wear! A key trend for 2022 seen here worn both casually with jeans and thrown over prettier pieces to give it a harder edge. If you can pinch one from the man in your life even better - as slouchy and roomy is the key silhouette.

Pack those skinny’s away for now and get out your slouchier jeans. A nod to the 80’s with high waists (only the brave can tackle low-slung) and mid wash blues. The fit is roomy and relaxed - with soft knits or more formal jackets and coats. Finally we can all be comfortable!

Such a key piece - the bias slip skirt is fast becoming a wardrobe staple. Usually in plain satin and in classic colours - layer up with oversized knits and boots or pumps. And of course in Spring you can swap to a t-shirt and sandals. What’s not to love…

Well this season it is either very short, or very long. Thankfully those not wanting to flash winter pins can relax and wear lengths from midi to full ankle grazing. Do you have a maxi skirt or dress from a few years ago that you only ever wear on holiday? Pull out and wear with knits or blazers to “winterize”.

The silhouette of the season is definitely oversized. But why purchase a new oversized blazer when the best place to look is a second hand shop - definitely in the menswear section. And those formal trousers can be baggy, relaxed, and comfy. So if you have some baggier styles hidden away at the back of your wardrobe you can wear with pride. Just style tonally and with some accessories to update.

This animal print has become a classic and there is reason why. Suits everyone, can be dressed up or down, and colours classic enough to make it so easy to wear. If you have a leopard print piece of anything, pull it out and layer up to suit the season.

This season black really is the new black. And surely a colour we all own somewhere in our wardrobes? Trends see it worn top to toe, but if you don’t suit black against the face brighten up with jewellery or a scarf to help. Try mixing textures to save your outfit looking dull - and gold hardware helps keep it premium.

Last but certainly not least is hot pink - THE colour of the season. With Pierpaolo Piccioli showing almost all hot fuchsia pink for his Valentino A/W 22 catwalk show, and closely followed by Lanvin and Loewe, the instagram crowd quickly copied and glowed in this dopamine colour. If you have a piece of bright pink (any shade) then wear now! Even if it is just a little lippy.

Enjoy dressing up, enjoy the season, and enjoy rewearing some old wardrobe pieces.
