Put a “Spring ‘22” in your step
If your answer is no, I am not ready, then don’t fret! Here at Conscious Closet we have done all the hard work for you in gathering wearable trends so that you can jump in to the season with a spring in your step, and look fabulous.
Fashion trends are in abundance this season, as designers encourage the consumer to venture online and instore to start buying again. There is a real feeling of optimism as colours return, prints are pretty, and there is a real sense of anything goes.
With a mixed bag of style for Spring/Summer 2022 we can all pick the trends we feel most comfortable with, and adjust our own wardrobes with that inspiration (and of course a little splattering of new sustainable purchases!)
So read on to see our favourite trends for this season, and be inspired!
Chic and sleek…
Seeing a noughties revival mixed up with some 90’s minimalism - for those brave enough there are some crop tops, mini skirts and cut out details (eye roll) and for those who live a normal life there are simple and sleek lines which look smart and timeless (happy clapping). Simple slip dresses, classic trench coats, clean tailoring, knitted dresses, sophisticated co-ords and luxe timeless separates - all make very wearable trends. Keep colours neutral and monochrome to add the luxe, and accessorise with beautiful jewellery and classic bags. This is about investing and keeping - a truly sustainable experience.
Extremes of colour…
White as a colour? Of course! We would like to champion the all-white ensemble worn head to toe. Collections showed white dressing as a key trend. Crisp white cotton dresses on a sun drenched stroll? Wide leg trousers worn with a classic white shirt? However you wear it - keep it simple and fresh.
For the bold – colour is back with a bang! Versace paraded women down the catwalk in hot pink suiting with orange under layers. Zara followed quickly with clashing bold colours in a vibrant spring collection. Head to toe “dopamine dressing” (so called due to dressing with the intention of boosting your mood) is lighting up Spring ‘22. Pick a bold shirt or blazer, vibrant dress, or head to toe colour in a jumpsuit - the brighter the better.

Key items…
Another exciting ‘90’s trend is the biker jacket - mostly leather or suede. At Conscious Closet we advocate vintage bikers - worn in soft leather with a story or two to tell. Use to cover up on a cold UK day, and great thrown over a pretty dress to add that bit of Kate Moss juxtaposition.
Oversized blazers are here to stay, worn over everything to add that up-to-date cool and in classic colours or bold shades. Perfect places to hunt for this trend? Menswear stores and vintage shops of course! Make sure the shoulders sit a little wide and the shape is straight with a mens cut.
Maxi skirts and dresses – we have been wearing midi length for a while now, and we are starting to see full length appear on the catwalk again. Tory Burch showed beautiful skirts and dresses that glazed the ankle, whilst Marc Jacobs had models posing in dresses with trains on the floor! So dig out your 1970’s inspired printed maxi dress that you wore over 10 years ago – and add some current accessories to bring it right up to date!
Loose and flowing trousers – perfect for work and those big belly days. The silhouette is baggy and loose – but make sure you balance with a more fitted top, even if your outer layer is roomy. High waist or slouchy – you choose whatever suits your figure.

Romance…
Designers appealed to our sense of wanting to dress up and be pretty again. A rebellion against loungewear perhaps! Chanel, Jason Wu, Giambattista Valli all sent shades of romantic pinks down the catwalk. Valentino and Rodarte showed florals good enough for the Chelsea Flower Show. Some used fabrics with shimmer, shine and sequins. Garments decorated with appliqué and embroidery.
For those pretty and vintage moments, choose a tiny splattering or a whole outfit adorned with your favourite gesture. Add brooches or decorative buttons to your garments for a quick fix. Romantic floral prints are everywhere and a good investment for a forever summer dress. The fashion world really is your “romantic” oyster. And of course vintage stores are a mine of finds for this look. Have fun.

Denim…
Does denim ever go away? Of course not. But a little denim update never hurt anyone. Shades are darker this year, and shapes are nodding to the seventies; bootcut jeans (preferably with platforms) and long denim skirts with pretty tops. Elisabette Franchi showed some beautiful denim pieces for great holiday inspiration. We are denim crazy at Conscious Closet but always make sure we keep our denim pieces FOREVER.
